Climbing Is a Growth Sport - Here are your World Wide Competition Governing Bodies
Competition Climbing Canada/Competition d'escalade Canada (CEC) is the governing body for competition climbing in Canada. The CEC is run by volunteers from across the country. The CEC comprises the Open and Youth Divisions. The CEC is the only sanctioning body for competition climbing in Canada recognized by the International Climbing Committee (ICC). Competitive membership in the CEC is required when representing Canada at ICC sanctioned competitions. The structure or reporting path is listed as follows;
CEC Competition Climbing Canada/Competition d'escalade Canada
ACC Alpine Club of Canada
UIAA - ICC Climbing
The CEC does not directly run competitions. However, we all help out and/or already are heavily involved with our local clubs. We need volunteers in all provinces to organize and run competitions in both the youth and open divisions. As we grow and get more volunteer support we can provide resources to facilitate the growth of competitive indoor rock climbing. Let’s make Canada a climbing force. Volunteer Today!
OPEN REGISTRATIONS
Effective this competition year (2004/2005 Season), the CEC will grant a 7 day extension after a Local competition for registration with the CEC. Therefore a competitor can register with the CEC either before the Local competition or within 7 days from the day the Local competition concluded. However, points will only be recorded for that Local competition onward. This change is to accommodate those who were not aware of the CEC and its Points Registry until that Local competition. To ease the administration burden it is strongly requested that all climbers who are interested in joining the CEC please register before the Local competition. This does not apply to Regional or National level competitions wherein members must apply before those competitions for those points to apply in the Points Registry
DON'T BE DISAPPOINTED - REGISTER WITH THE CEC TODAY. CLIMBERS POINTS WILL ONLY BE TRACKED AFTER THEY REGISTER WITH THE CEC.
Open registrants will not be receiving a membership number but rather their names will appear in the CEC Points Summary where their points from each sanctioned competition will be recorded.

Sanctioning requests are now being accepted for all levels of competitions for the 2004/2004 season. Competition disciplines include Bouldering, Difficulty and Speed at either the Local, Regional or at the National Level.
In particular we are requesting that all interested organizations that wish to Host the 2005 National Championships in the following list, please submit their applications by Dec 15th, 2005.
-
Youth
National Championships – Difficulty (Awarded

Bloc), June 5th.)
- Open National Championships – Difficulty
- Open National Championships – Speed
Although we are asking for applications at this early time frame, our CEC Rules and Regulations do have guidelines for minimum time requirements for submitted a sanctioning application prior to an event. 1 Month for a local, 2 months for a Regionals and 3 months for a Nationals. These minimum time requirements are in place to allow sufficient notice for athletes to prepare for such an event. Please see Exhibit 1. Please consider the Regionals like a provincials, leading upto the Nationals. At this time, athletes can attend more than one regionals event, although only their highest points for one regionals will apply.
Also, our 2004/2005 season typically runs from October to July of the following year. Youth and Open do not follow the same schedule, where since the Youth Organization in Canada is much more established, it does follow a more defined timeline leading up to the Youth Worlds. The following bar graph shows a recommended guide for when you should schedule your different event types.

1) Youth Local Events include bouldering, difficulty or combined formats since there is no Youth Bouldering Circuit. This may change in the future as the international ICC/UIAA organization is considering implementing a youth bouldering discipline. So in the interim the CEC allows this combined points format for Youth Locals.
If you have additional questions please contact your provincial rep or one of the other CEC committee members.
